Two 5-7oz skeins of worsted-weight yarn, or 4-5oz of bulky-weight yarn (hat requires approximately 3-3.5oz of yarn to make)
Size I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge (14 dc = 4 in.)
Tapestry needle, scissors
Instructions
Ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into ring, join with sl st.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around, join with sl st. (22 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, *(1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st. (33 sts)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, *(1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st. (44 sts)
Rnd 5: Ch 2, *(1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st. (55 sts)
Rnds 6-11: Ch 2, 1 dc in each st around, join with sl st.
Rnd 12: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st around, join with sl st.
Rnd 13 (back loops only for this round): Ch 1, *(1 sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st.
Rnd 14: Ch 1, *(1 sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st.
Rnd 15: Ch 1, *(1 sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st.
Rnd 16: Ch 1, *(1 sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st), repeat from * around, join with sl st.
Rnds 17-19: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, join with sl st. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Remember to fold the hat at the top. And voila, you're done!
